Autumn

Cluster amaryllis get in full bloom around here in this time.
This is the rice field at the foot of Mt. Katuragi. Mt.Katuragi is western of Nara prefecture and it's on border with Osaka prefecture.
The ears of rice make a  deep bow and shining golden with a lots of cluster amaryllis.
There is an idiom in Japan, "実るほど 頭の下がる 稲穂かな”means "The more ears of rice become heavy, the more they make a deep bow " or "The more people has knowledge or virtue, the more people  become modest." When I was a child, my mother used to tell me this idiom to teach modesty.

Rice fields are surrounded by cluster amaryllis.

Some  cluster amaryllis were blooming alongside of  Shirakawa-river  in Kyoto city ,too.
Shirakawa-river run the middle of Kyoto city and a short river.

A narrow bridge over Shirakawa-river near Gion in Kyoto city. Willows continue. I am afraid of walking on this bridge, too narrow.

   Carmen

Buhne Baden (the music theater at Baden city in Austria) gave a performance of  well-known opera" Carmen" by Bizzet at Nara-hyakunen-hall  in Nara city as a part of their opera tour. They play it at 20 cities in Japan.
Thankfully, they visited on this year when the calamity on 3.11 cast a deep shadow over Japan.
Our seats were in the second row so I could watch ,listen their performance well.
Carmen was a lovely, not gaudy. Don Jose and Escamillo were nice voice. Micaela was clear high tone. The last scene drew me.
We were distributed a script book with music and simple comic that outline of Carmen. So we can enjoy humming this, listening the CD afterward. It's good idea to understand "Carmen" for me.

On the way to Soni the other day, I saw a host of red cluster amaryllis. Those vivid red colors were eye catching.
Yakushiji temple seen from Oike pond is fabulous. You took the trouble to take photos of them from early morning. Your enthusiasm pays off.
Enjoy your travel again!

This year, something seems to be wrong with some autumn flowers, but cluster amaryllis are as vibrant as ever. Blooming sheer red on the narrow paths among the paddies and fields is typical rural sight of autumn but I didn't know them in Gion. I didn't know you're such an early bird, neither, Sarah. Love each and every scene. Have a nice trip.
