So there were some traditional festivals in the night in Nara. We enjoyed warm old lights in these festivals.
August was the month of Bon-festival. The spirits of ancestors came back home and we saw the lights to welcome them and see them off at the World Heritage Site or around there.
A lots of lights were arranged in the estate of Todaiji-temple.

大文字送り火(Daimonji-okuribi)
They burnt many bonfires that were lined with a shape of 大(dai) on the Mt.Takamado to remember ancestors. I heard this 大 is largest in Japan. It's about 109m~164m.
大極殿(Daigokuden)
The emperor administered in the 8century here and lately it was restored. Countless lights(a candle in a cup) were scattered there. People enjoyed in the costumes of Nara period. Of course they didn't have illuminations in those days.
