wisteria in Nara Park

A lot of wisteria  are spotted in Nara Park.
The wisteria at Kasuga-Grand-shrine or Kofukuji-Temple or a bus stop are well-kept and their purple hue enchant us every year.

(Seisyonagon: she is a noble of famous writer and poet, living around10~11centry.) is saying "あてなるもの(graceful things)" are " a rosary of crystals" "the plum flowers with a little bit snow" and "wisteria blossom" in 枕草子(Makuranososi) written by her.
She also seems to have  loved wisteria.

Wild-wisteria
While a lot of wild-wisteria are  also living in Nara-Park.The deer carry the seeds,I wonder?
I didn't know there are so many wisteria there because I usually don't walk, looking the top of the tree.

The primeval forest is remained in Nara-Park. Those trees are very tall but wisterias wind these trees and grow to the upper of those trees and bloom flocks of beautiful purple flowers. The top of some trees are covered with purple. They look like to be purple trees, not green trees at a distance.

I have been thinking the wisteria is slender and have the flowers of the noble purple color.
But when  I discovered the  stems of some wisteria were about one meter in diameter, I was astonished at this thickness  but I could get this thick stem is the moving force or spirit behind the vigorous growth.

I admired its tremendous vital energies. So I imagined the wisteria nymph may be able to exist in the deep forest...... though Japanese dance has a program of the dance of wisteria nymph.

They say the full bloom of wild-wisteria is short -term. I could see the moment beauty of these wild-wisteria come through in the primeval forest.

Very pretty, but poisonous Wisteria (seeds)!

Here in Germany we call this species "Blauregen", litterally translated into "blue rain".

My neighbours living two floors underneath our appartment have a spectacular Wisteria plant on their balcony rail as well. It's that strong that it squeezes the handrail as well as the rainwater downpipe made of metal!

Great photos, great impressions, Sarah! It looks like a purple-blue rain shower!

Thanks for sharing these impressions from Nara park.

Uwe.

When I went hiking in Chichibu during Golden Week, I saw big trees covered in wisteria. It was so beautiful, but I wondered if the wisteria were perhaps strangling the trees.

I always smile when I read Sei Shōnagon's lists. This list was new to me, and - yup! - it made me smile. :)

Hi Sarah,

I could identify Kofukuji temple from your post! It looks even more beautiful in the shadow of the wisteria. Your observation of the beauty of the wild wisteria is amazing, I love the resultant mish-mash of the purple and the green. Have a nice day, Sarah :)

Hi, Sarah
